STEVEN J. MARTIN is a partner and trial lawyer in the firm. His practice is focused on professional liability defense including doctors, hospitals, engineers and insurance brokers. His practice also includes trucking and transportation law.

He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1989 and his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1992. In law school, he was a Richert Scholar and a member of the National Moot Court Team.

He is a frequent invited speaker at seminars for physicians and hospitals on the issues of risk management and medical liability defense. He has successfully defended cases in both state and federal courts and has first-chaired several trials including medical malpractice and insurance broker errors and omissions. In 2007, he argued a successful appeal before the Third District Appellate Court in the case of Ormond v Frankfort Memorial Post No. 1493.

He is a member of the Chicagoland Hospital and Risk Management Society, the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel where he served as Chairman of the Defense Tactics Seminar in 1998.
