Mr. Broom has lectured on topics having to do with trial practice, usually representing the defense perspective. Programs in which he has been a participant in recent years include presentations for the IICLE Trial Evidence Seminar, the IICLE Civil Discovery Practice Seminar, the IICLE Third Party Practice Seminar, the ISBA Law Ed Series: Tort Reform Day to Day Issues; the ISBA Law Ed Series: Selecting and Preparing an Expert Witness; the ISBA Mutual Seminar: “Conflicts of Interest that Can Lead to Malpractice Claims: Multiple Representations; Unrepresented Parties; Outside Business Interests with Clients,” and the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys’ Annual Meeting, Bermuda, 1997, “The Tri-Partite Relationship in Defending Insureds: Ethical Problems in Discovery and Client Communications.”

He has made presentations to the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel’s spring and fall seminars on closing arguments in comparative fault cases; use of rehabilitation expert witnesses to mitigate damages; trial strategies associated with contribution and apportionment; instructing juries in multiple party lawsuits; and on catastrophic injury and punitive damage cases. He presented “The Court’s Wild Ride Through the Magic Kingdom of UM/UIM Coverage” presentation to ABA TIPS Section on Insurance at ABA Annual Meeting, 1996. He was a presenter at the DRI Joint International Conference, Barcelona, Spain in May 2004: “Class Actions in the United States: Lawsuit du Jour.” He was a panelist for the ABOTA/FDCC Jury Trial Summit Program in April 2005 and a panelist for the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel Insurance Symposium “Who is the Client? The Tripartite Relationship.” He has served as a member of the faculty for the IDC Trial Academy.
